GRNET has acquired under a long-term contract “dark” optical fiber (dark fiber).
In such network the following are implemented:
- Broadband (WAN) connections
- metropolitan (MAN) connections, and
- Organization connections.
The optical fibers have been acquired under long-term contracts that secure specific damage recovery times, an annual availability of ≥ 99%, as well as specific fiber-related data (CD, PMD, attenuation).
The topography of the fiber optics (footprint) at a country level are presented in the map here below.
GRNET’s long-term leased fibers are used to provide physical-level interconnection services. These services are provided either directly over the “dark” optical fibers, or multiplexed through GRNET’s DWDM equipment. The above diagram shows the topology of the optical fibers per link as well as the points where the optical equipment is installed.
