Description

Mahaon - Provision of advanced network-computer services in Hospital Units on a cloud computing environment

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with GRNET have implemented from 02/06/2014 to 30/10/2015 the project "Integration of Hospital Units in the GRNET National Academic Network, to support research and clinical activities in medicine and biology, in cloud computing environment", in the framework of the Operational Program "Digital Convergence". The aim of the project was to connect 31 public Hospital Units of the country with the GRNET network, as per the respective practice/model followed in many other European countries, with multiple benefits to the operational, clinical, educational and research work of the hospitals and the scientific personnel thereof.

In the framework of the proposed action under the title "Provision of advanced network and computer services to Hospital Units in a cloud computing environment to support the clinical work, enhance their research activity, and improve the competitiveness of the health sector", the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with GRNET will span the above project across all public hospitals of the country that have not benefited there from yet. The following shall be implemented:

a) The interconnection of all the public hospitals of the country, two (2) buildings of the Ministry of Health and the Hellenic National Blood Donation Center (EKEA), to the GRNET fiber optic network at the speed of 1/10Gbps under lease of the pertinent fiber optic infrastructure for a term of fifteen (15) years.

b) The supply and installation of more than 4,500 new wireless access points (Wi-Fi) within the premises of the eligible hospitals.

c) The provision of an archiving service (Harmoni) for data produced by the imaging devices of the eligible hospitals at the Health Data Center, in Heraklion, Crete.

d) The expansion of the Health Data Center to meet the requirements of the new eligible hospitals.

e) The creation of users directories for the staff of the eligible hospitals.

f) The provision of a service enabling access of the scientific personnel of the hospitals to DIADOSIS, which is an inter-lending service of medical articles (diadosis.grnet.gr).

g) The targeted upgrade of the local hospital networks.

h) The utilization of the provided computer resources of the Data Center in Heraklion, Crete for the hosting and installation of new e-health services.

The Ministry of Health is the Owner and Beneficiary and GRNET SA is the agent implementing the Project.

Operating Organizations shall be the Ministry of Health and the National Network of Infrastructure, Technology and Research (GRNET SA).
