The main objective of the Digital Credentials for Europe (DC4EU) project is to support the large-scale pilot implementation of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW), which is being developed under the eIDAS (electronic Identification, Authentication and Trust Services) regulation that ensures that electronic interactions between businesses and citizens are safer, faster and more efficient, regardless of the European country in which they take place.
The DC4EU project will bring major benefits to the education and social security sectors by developing large-scale pilots, and will ensure the interoperability of the EUDIW European Digital Identity technologies, while developing technologies and processes to exploit the eIDAS trust framework, which is undoubtedly one of the pillars of the European Union, and has laid the foundations of identity and trust in the digital world. The revision of this framework extends the scope of its competences beyond identity to include electronic attestation of attributes (EAA).
The role of GRNET includes participation in the process of developing and integrating the eIDAS toolkit development, as well as participation in the basic design and implementation activities related to use cases concerning educational credentials and professional qualifications.
In addition, GRNET will have a leading role in the work package focusing on the coordination of all interactions between the DC4EU project and the European Commission, the eIDAS Expert Group and other relevant cross-border initiatives and relevant stakeholders (i.e. EBSI, EBP Observatory, ENISA, other eIDAS consortia, etc.).
