The project "Expansion of the Electronic Service for obtaining an Academic Identity Card" aims at expanding the existing Academic Identity Card service.
The main objectives of the project are the following:
- to upgrade the electronic service whereby students of all levels and members of the educational, research and administrative staff of universities and research institutions may obtain the Academic Identity Card
- to upgrade the card for students, professors, researchers and administrative staff.
- to interconnect the Academic Identity Card system with the Public and Private Bus Transportation Companies (OASA and KTEL respectively), so that students can travel with a reduced fare when using their academic identity card.
More specifically, the project includes:
- the replacement of students' academic identity cards with new ones that feature an embedded brick, so that they can be used in controlled access services, electronic ticket services, etc.
- the replacement of the staff's academic ID cards with new ones that will encompass a brick of modern technology so that they can be used to store approved digital certificates
- the upgrade of the service information infrastructure and support for the mobile devices access
- the ability to insert the identity card into a digital wallet and use it in relevant applications as equivalent to a hard copy identity card.
Upon the completion of the project, the online Academic Identity Card service will become more user-friendly for the members of the academic and research community, facilitating their daily activities. At the same time, the upgrade of the cards will allow their contactless use in services such as access control to buildings and venues (e.g. museums) or electronic ticket services in public transport, thus making the control process easier, safer and more transparent.
The project is implemented within the framework of the O.P. "Public Sector Reform" and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and National resources.
