GRNET participated at the Potential Interop Event in Vilnius

On May 26–27, 2025, GRNET participated at the on-site interoperability testing event in Vilnius, Lithuania, dedicated to the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW),  that the POTENTIAL consortium hosted, bringing together technical teams from across Europe. Building on the momentum from earlier events, this gathering focused on real-world, peer-to-peer testing in a collaborative environment.

The event marked a significant milestone in advancing the seamless cross-border interoperability of European Digital Identity wallets. The event brought together over 100 participants from 14 EU Member States, representing 34 public and private entities, including 17 wallet issuers and 17 service providers. Throughout the event, more than 1,300 interoperability tests were conducted, resulting in over 1,000 successful transactions.

This gathering marked a decisive step forward on the path toward enabling secure, user-friendly, and smooth cross-border use of Digital Identity wallets across Europe. The insights and results from the event will help guide upcoming interoperability testing sessions planned in the coming weeks and months, ensuring continuous improvement of technical specifications and support tools. Participants engaged in real-life interoperability scenarios tailored to different use cases, pushing the limits and validating solutions that work across borders, systems, and frameworks. The collaboration and exchange of best practices among teams from 14 countries highlighted the collective effort driving European digital innovation forward.

“This event is all about turning theory into practice: for the first time we’ve been assessing real-life interoperability scenarios, pushing boundaries and validating what works across borders, systems, and frameworks”, said Florent Tournois, the French Coordinator for POTENTIAL. “With every interoperability event, Potential brings the EU one step closer to a future where citizens can access digital identity services across borders—reliably, efficiently, and under their full control”, he added.

As one of the four Large Scale Pilots launched by the European Commission, Potential will conclude in September 2025.
