Amazon Web Services (AWS) for Educational Use

GRNET, operating under auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance, in collaboration with Public Cloud Group (PCG), presents a new tool that enables faculty members and students to leverage the computing power of Amazon Web Services (AWS) for educational purposes, free of charge.

This tool facilitates the creation and management of courses and labs through the AWS platform, offering significant advantages:

  • Resource isolation per student, ensuring each student has a separate, protected environment.
  • Individual labs for each student, allowing uninterrupted hands-on practice.
  • Detailed cost tracking, enabling resource management and optimization.
  • Secure data access, protecting sensitive information.
  • Access to AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, and SageMaker, providing a comprehensive educational environment.

Application Process: Requests should be submitted via email to helpdesk@aws.grnet.gr and must include:

  1. Purpose of use – A description providing a distinctive name and summary of the project.
  2. Project codename.
  3. Course or project title utilizing the resources.
  4. Project owner details (full name in Latin characters) and email address.
  5. Duration – Up to six months, with the possibility of renewal.
  6. Project budget.
  7. Budget breakdown, provided via a hyperlink to a spreadsheet created using the AWS Pricing Calculator.

Applications’ Timeline: Applications are accepted throughout the academic year and will be reviewed upon receipt, following a First Come, First Served basis. Applications will be evaluated immediately, and before the deadline.
