The main objective of the (T)raceability (R)eference (A)pplication (or (A)rchitecture) (C)onformant (E)BSI for European Union (TRACE4EU) project is to explore and implement document traceability technologies, creating an "umbrella architecture" based on the existing EBSI (European Blockchain Services Infrastructure) services.
Traceability of data, documents and physical assets is essential in many areas. Therefore, the use case for traceability was one of the first to be developed by the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP).
Traceability use cases and applications allow EBSI and other blockchain-based e-initiatives to be used and applied in many sectors. TRACE4EU will focus on working with pan-European stakeholders and promoting recommendations for further development of the EBSI ecosystem.
As a result, TRACE4EU will have a significant impact on traditional industries, contributing to their enhanced efficiency, productivity, competitiveness, and resilience. Additionally, it will foster transparency across Europe for citizens, enabling them to better and proactively monitor the flow of goods and data through future traceability applications.
The role of GRNET in the project is to contribute to the realisation of the following objectives:
- Create an umbrella architecture that can support traceability use cases
- Development of architectural elements on the top of EBSI
- Conformance testing with APIs and vocabularies
- Identification and mitigation of potential risks of the umbrella architecture
- Create conformance with EU regulations such as GDPR
- Alignment of the technology stack with existing frameworks such as eSSIF to enable interoperability
