Description

Skills4EOSC: Skills for the European Open Science commons - creating a training ecosystem for Open and FAIR science.

The Skills4EOSC project aims to create a pan-European network of Competence Centers (CC) in order to accelerate the upskilling of European researchers and harmonise the training of new professionals for managing scientific data.

Over the next three years, the project partners will work together to provide Open Science Commons and to create an EOSC-ready skilled European workforce, connecting existing centres of competence (CCs) in open science and scientific data management.  The aim is to develop methodologies, activities and training resources to unify the current training landscape into a collaborative and reliable ecosystem and to provide dedicated community-specific support to leverage the potential of EOSC for open and data-intensive research.

CCs pool the expertise available within research institutions, universities, and thematic and cross-discipline research infrastructures. They offer training and support, empowerment, lifelong learning, professionalization, and resources to a variety of stakeholders, including not only researchers and data stewards, but also funders, decision makers, civil servants, and industry.

The CCs represented by the Skills4EOSC partners play a pivotal role in national plans for Open Science and in the interaction with scientific communities. They also have close access to policy makers and the related funding streams.

The Skills4EOSC CC network will drive the co-creation of harmonized trainer accreditation pathways, academic and professional curricula and skills quality assurance, recognition frameworks, and learning material creation methodologies.

The main role of GRNET’s participation for the needs of the project includes :

  • The design and delivery of “Science for Policy” courses targeting researchers, “honest brokers”, civil servants and policy makers.
  • Use of real-life scientific topics with high societal impact to showcase evidence-based decision making.
  • The provision to civil servants & decision makers with key competences to use Open Science outputs for evidence-based decisions
  • The provision to researchers and “honest brokers” with key competences on Open Science and communication of scientific output to policy makers, funders and Public Authorities
  • The empowerment of Competence Centres with resources for “Science4Policy” activities and the demonstration of the power of the Open Collections to implement policy goals such as climate adaption, biodiversity conservation, public understanding of science, Covid-research, or nature based solutions in the area of bioeconomy (New Green Deal).

The Skills4EOSC project consortium includes 21 partners and 23 associated partners in 18 European Countries (Italy, the Netherlands, France, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, North Macedonia, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Poland, Sweden, Estonia, Spain and the United Kingdom).
