The «ORQESTRA - Quantum technologies» project aims to integrate post-quantum cryptography (PQC) capacity both on the field or in legacy military
Installations.
More specifically, the aim of the project is to develop a fully functional quantum-resistant suite for data sharing that will not only be resistant to advances in quantum computing, but also practical for seamless integration into existing legacy systems in the defense sector.
The project aims to leverage existing Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Communication Infrastructure (QCI) systems to provide secure quantum encryption for dual-use applications.
To achieve this, ORQESTRA will develop a range of programmable software optimizations and shared hardware accelerators in a cost-effective manner.
The practical, formally verified, and effective applications of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) will bridge the gap between the computationally intensive problems of PQC and the operational deployment of cryptographic systems, resulting in a certifiable, quantum-resistant level of security.
The main benefit of the project is the creation of secure communication channels between different entities and services within the broader defense sector, which will facilitate the transition of defense systems to the post-quantum era.
GRNET's main role will be to use the infrastructure of the existing HellasQCI network in Athens for research applications in Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and post-quantum cryptography (PQC).
