Duration

Description

The "FAIRCORE4EOSC" project aims to develop subsystems to extend the capabilities of the EOSC core services (EOSC-Core) that are essential for supporting and activating a FAIR ecosystem.

More specifically, the project’s objective is to develop core service components and leverage solutions developed in previous projects and in close collaboration with ongoing projects, such as EOSC Future.

A FAIR ecosystem is characterised by being Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

The goal of the project is to give the research community the ability to find, access and reuse an increasing number of research results, both cross-border and scientifically.

This will be achieved through technologies that support the discovery and interoperability of research results using persistent identifiers (PIDs), i.e. an element assigned to a resource that constitutes its permanent web address, regardless of where it is stored.

Within the framework of the project’s needs, GRNET will offer the following:

  1. Its expertise in the field  of persistent identifiers through its participation as a member of the EOSC Association PID Policy and Implementation Task Force
  2. The development of a tool to monitor the compliance of tools and resources based on the rules derived from the PID Policy which is the output of the EOSC PID Architecture Task Force
  3. Participation in the development and extension of the "Meta Resolver", a tool that can identify Permanent ID providers of different resource types and forward the user to the resource source.
  4. Participation in the support and possible creation of a copy of Software Heritage which is the software repository in source code form, incorporating our technical and scientific knowledge.

The project is implemented under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme (HORIZON), HORIZON-RIA HORIZON Research and Innovation Actions, and is part of the call HORIZON-INFRA-2021-EOSC-01-03P: “Deploying EOSC-Core components for FAIR.”
