The "EOSC Beyond" project aims to improve the functionality and sustainability of EOSC services. EOSC Beyond will make the second generation of core EOSC services (resource registry and catalogues, data and service management system, AAI federation, order management, configuration management, monitoring, accounting and helpdesk) operational, thus facilitating the establishment of regional or thematic EOSC nodes and their integration into the European EOSC Federation.
In particular, the EOSC resource offer will be extended to include consumable EOSC resources (e.g. training courses, computing power, storage space, etc.), which will be offered as services. These services will be offered through the EOSC Marketplace, an online store where users can search for and acquire such resources and service providers can specify their offers.
Furthermore, the "EOSC Beyond" project will improve the implementation framework of the EOSC Core by improving the interactivity between cross-disciplinary data, services, tools and research resources. The project implementation will include a library of adapters that will facilitate the integration of scientific services with selected applications, tools and services, such as for data transfer and storage, cloud services, and workflow engines.
The two general use cases that will guide these developments will be:
- data discovery, access, transport, analysis, and publishing; and
- metadata aggregation in scientific communication.
Βenefits of the project include accelerating the development of scientific applications, enabling Open Science through dynamic resource deployment, fostering innovation with testing environments, and aligning EOSC architecture with European data spaces.
GRNET will take the role of coordinator in the following objectives:
- The design & development of the new generation of EOSC Core services
- Extension of the capabilities of the existing generation of EOSC Core services
- Support of the creation of EOSC nodes
More specifically, GRNET has undertaken the design and development of the following services:
- certification and authorization (AAI) services
- logging, monitoring of the correct operation of services (Service Monitoring)
- Service Accounting
- Provision of Permanent Identifiers (PIDs Service)
