Stefanos Kollias, GRNET Chairman and Professor Emeritus, NTUA, participated in the SPAY Forum 2026, which took place on May 12 and 13, 2026, at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens.

The SPAY Forum 2026 brought together representatives from the government, local government, the scientific community, and civil protection organizations, with the aim of exchanging knowledge and best practices on issues of resilience, sustainable development, and environmental protection.

Mr. Kollias participated in the panel discussion titled “Artificial Intelligence & Environmental Protection: The Digital Ally of Mount Hymettus,” which focused on the role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in strengthening environmental protection and civil protection.

During his presentation at the SPAY Forum 2026, Stefanos Kollias highlighted the role of new national digital infrastructure in strengthening civil protection and environmental management through artificial intelligence applications. He made special mention of the “Daedalus” supercomputer, which is being installed in Lavrio and is expected to become operational in September, providing high-performance computing capabilities to research institutions, businesses, and public sector organizations.

As he pointed out, the new infrastructure will enable the processing and analysis of large volumes of data in real time, utilizing information from Greek microsatellites, thermal cameras, and other monitoring systems, with the aim of providing faster and more effective support for decision-making.

The panel also included representatives from the government, the academic community, local government, and the private sector, highlighting the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in developing innovative solutions to address contemporary environmental and climate challenges.
