The APTITUDE (Advanced Project for Trusted Identity Technologies and Unified Digital Ecosystem) project aims to develop a set of specific use cases for the European Union's Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet).
As the successor to previous large-scale pilot projects (LSP), the APTITUDE project builds on the experience gained from its predecessors (NOBID, DC4EU, POTENTIAL, and EWC) and expands on them, ensuring the smooth transition and evolution of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW).
The APTITUDE project consortium brings together 117 public and private partners from 12 European countries and is a project selected by the European Commission to promote digital identity solutions across Europe.
Building on the strong foundations laid by POTENTIAL, APTITUDE will accelerate the development of secure, user-friendly, and interoperable digital identity solutions across the EU.
The project will offer multiple benefits to EU citizens, such as:
- Seamless travel with digital credentials, replacing physical documents and simplifying procedures.
- Safer and more convenient electronic payments with strong authentication ensuring secure transactions for both e-commerce and in-store purchases.
- Faster and more efficient access to essential services, such as banking, vehicle registration, and transportation, reducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Providing citizens with full control over their personal data, ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the highest standards of privacy protection.
The role of GRNET is to:
- Participate in technical tasks related to the standards to be used in the EUDI Wallet
- Coordinate work related to the use of the EUDI Wallet in the travel industry (hotels, etc.) as well as the use of the EUDI Wallet in specific population groups (such as students)
- Coordinate the project's dissemination activities
The project involves 117 partners from the following European Member States: France (coordinator), Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Hungary, and Ukraine.
The project is funded under the Digital Europe program, with 50% funding from the EU and 50% from the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence.
