GRNET’s Participation in the EUDI Wallet Interoperability Testing Event in Utrecht

GRNET is participating in the interoperability testing event taking place on February 26 & 27, 2025, in Utrecht, as part of the POTENTIAL project. The event focuses on testing the use of the mobile driving licence through the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet), contributing to the development of digital identity solutions across the EU.

The event has brought together ~100 participants from across Europe and beyond, highlighting the strong collaboration between digital wallet providers and car rental companies. The tests focus on the functionality of the Mobile Driving Licence (MDL) in a cross-border context.

Participating Countries:

The countries testing implementations include Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Ukraine, and Greece. Additionally, Malta and Spain participated as observers, along with other international stakeholders.

Key Testing Scenarios:

Local Sharing (ISO 18013-5):

  • Data transfer via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
  • Licence verification on iOS and Android devices
  • “Speed dating” format, where verifiers rotate every 20-30 minutes

Online Sharing (ISO 18013-7):

  • Licence verification over the internet
  • Ideal for online vehicle rentals

This event marks a crucial step in addressing technical challenges, gathering feedback on standards, and refining digital wallets ahead of their EU-wide deployment in 2026.
