HellasQCI, a project coordinated by GRNET, operating under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance, successfully participated at the 3rd workshop of the Romanian National Quantum Communication Infrastructure on 20-21 June 2024 which took place at the Technical University of Iaşi and the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași, Romania.
Dr. Ilias Papastamatiou, Senior Project Manager at GRNET and the HellasQCI Project Coordinator, was invited to attend both the 3rd RoNaQCI Workshop and the RoNaQCI Consultative Board meeting in Iași, Romania.
The Workshop commenced with welcoming addresses by the Mayor of Iasi Mr. Mihai Chirica, the Rector of the Technical University of Iaşi Prof. Dan Cascaval, the Rector of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasa Prof. Liviu George Maha and the Director of the North-East Regional Development Agency Mr. Vasile Asandei.
During the Workshop, insightful and very productive discussions occurred between various National Quantum Communication Infrastructures (NatQCIs) including Greece’s HellasQCI (Dr. Ilias Papastamatiou), Romania’s RoNaQCI (Prof. Pantelimon George Popescu, Prof. Mihai Carabaş), Poland’s PIONIER-Q (Piotr Rydlichowski), and Hungary’s QCIHungary (Prof. Sandor Imre, Balázs Visky).
The discussions focused on the progress of implementing the four NatQCIs, addressing technical solutions, overcoming the deployment challenges of the quantum infrastructures, and developing training programs for the next generation of QCI experts and end-users.
The RoNaQCI workshop fostered regional cooperation in Southeastern Europe (SEE), enabling NatQCI participants to share best practices and coordinate efforts towards the common goal of a secure and operational EuroQCI.
