Description <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The Greek Ministry of Digital Governance participates in the <\/span><\/span>EuroQCI<\/span><\/span><\/a> European Ini<\/span><\/span>tiative for safe Quantum Communication Infrastructures – QCI.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

With the EuroQCI Initiative, the EU aims to create a pan-European network of quantum communication infrastructures. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The objective of the HellasQCI project, which is part of the EuroQCI european<\/span><\/span> network, is to contribute to the safe-keeping of critical data and infrastructures, in domains such as egovernment, healthcare, financial industry and many more critical areas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

This will be achieved by incorporating systems and technologies based on princ<\/span><\/span>iples of quantum technology, more specifically by the distribution of quantum keys (<\/span><\/span>QKD<\/span><\/span><\/strong>) to existing communication infrastructures, which will offer an exceptionally secure form of encryption, offering an extra layer of security.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Quantum encryption systems<\/span><\/span> offer state-of-the-art security, as far as data protection is concerned, by using QKD technology.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The implementation of the project involves the creation of <\/span><\/span>three quantum infrastructure metropolitan networks<\/span><\/span> in <\/span><\/span>Athens<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, <\/span><\/span>Thessaloniki<\/span><\/span><\/strong> and <\/span><\/span>Heraklion<\/span><\/span><\/strong> in <\/span><\/span>Crete<\/span><\/span><\/strong> which will connect with three optical Ground Stations (OGSs) in Helmos, Holomontas and Skinakas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Those network infrastructures will utilise quantum technology equipment (QKD), ground optical fibers, and satellite technologies.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The creation of this quantum infrastructure, combined with other initiatives will create a secure network for ground and satel<\/span><\/span>lite communications, ensuring the highest level of security in the government and private sectors. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The National Infrastructures for Research and Technology (GRNET), operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance, is the coordinator for<\/span><\/span> the HellasQCI project, in collaboration with 13 partners which include:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u25cf Research and Education Institutions with technical know-how in quantum technology (QKD)<\/span><\/span><\/div>\r\n
\u25cf Optical Ground Station operators<\/span><\/span><\/div>\r\n
\u25cf Bodies from the Telecommunication and Energy<\/span><\/span> domains <\/span><\/span><\/div>\r\n
\u25cf Businesses that offer innovative solutions and tools in the technology sector.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\r\n

There will also be a collaboration between Ireland, Luxemburg, Austria, Cyprus, Poland and Bulgaria for the exchange of technical know-how and best practices. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Funding<\/span><\/span>: The total budget of the project is \u20ac9.997.545. European Union funding amounts up to 50% of the total budget (\u20ac4.998.772.50).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n
