{"id":12756,"date":"2022-10-19T07:16:22","date_gmt":"2022-10-19T07:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/32478000127141257.blog.com.gr\/?post_type=wpbdp_listing&#038;p=12756"},"modified":"2025-04-04T10:31:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T07:31:05","slug":"upgrade-of-aris-the-national-high-performance-computing-system","status":"publish","type":"wpbdp_listing","link":"https:\/\/grnet.gr\/en\/business-directory\/upgrade-of-aris-the-national-high-performance-computing-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Upgrade of ARIS &#8211; The National High Performance Computing System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-16913 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/grnet.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/BANNER-EN-PEPA.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"841\" height=\"111\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Since 2015, GRNET develops and operates the most powerful HPC system<a href=\"https:\/\/hpc.grnet.gr\/\"> <span class=\"s2\">ARIS (Advanced Research Information System)<\/span><\/a> in Greece, which supports large-scale scientific applications of the Research and Academic community.\u00a0 The usage rate of ARIS reached 100% in a very short time since its launch, while the average annual use of its resources exceeds 94%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The success of ARIS HPC system and the high response rate that it received from its users derive from:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The need of large computational power required by the scientific community in fields such as biochemistry, climatology, meteorology and fluid dynamics<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The continued support and training provided by GRNET S.A. to research and academic institutions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The lack of a similar HPC system in Greece<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Based on the existing needs of the scientific community, which ARIS has been covering over the years of its successful operation, combined with the increasing domestic demand in computational power, GRNET S.A. has extended its existing HPC system through the \u201c<b>Upgrade of National HPC<\/b> (Phase A)\u201d Project (MIS 6005190), with a total budget of <strong data-start=\"264\" data-end=\"292\">\u20ac2,404,360 including VAT<\/strong>.\u00a0 More specifically, the Project included the <b>procurement and installation of additional high performance computing equipment at the Data Center located in the building of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The primary benefit of the project is to address the current and future needs of <strong data-start=\"657\" data-end=\"695\">research and academic institutions<\/strong> for supercomputing power in the coming years.
