{"id":21145,"date":"2025-11-11T12:46:51","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T10:46:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grnet.gr\/?p=21145"},"modified":"2025-11-11T13:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T11:00:00","slug":"grnet-at-fintech-athens-4-0-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grnet.gr\/en\/2025\/11\/11\/grnet-at-fintech-athens-4-0-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"GRNET at Fintech Athens 4.0, 30-31 October 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GRNET participated in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbg.gr\/en\/business\/business-seeds\/news-events\/events-fintech-athens-4-2025\"><b>Fintech Athens 4.0<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conference, held on 30-31 October 2025 at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the National Bank of Greece (NBG).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fintech Athens, now in its fourth year, is an initiative of<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartattica.eu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Smart Attica EDIH<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, co-funded by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/european-union.europa.eu\/index_en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">European Union<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and organized by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/u\/0\/d\/10XbPKQNxBah8rOBzBaGLgRKwnkbzRa1g7R469sTACYE\/edit\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Bank of Greece<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fintechhub.gr\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greek Fintech Hub<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This year\u2019s event brought together leading experts and executives from Central and Southeast Europe and the Middle East to discuss how AI is reshaping the Fintech landscape, from financial systems and education to tourism and the creative industries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>D. Anagnostopoulos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Secretary General for Information Systems and Digital Governance, <\/span><b>D. Katsianis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Assistant Professor, NKUA and Deputy Chairman, GRNET, and <\/span><b>D. Mitropoulos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Associate Professor, NKUA and Head of the Reliability Engineering Directorate, GRNET, took part in the panel discussion \u201c<\/span><b>Public Sector 2.0: Accelerating Government and EU Adaptation to Fintech and AI Innovation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d alongside<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">other distinguished experts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The session focused on how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, decentralized systems and fintech innovation are transforming the way governments operate, deliver services and build trust with citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Secretary General D. Anagnostopoulos highlighted that fintech and AI innovation are central to Greece\u2019s digital modernization, emphasizing the need for a safe, interoperable and AI-enabled public sector. He pointed to initiatives under way such as the State\u2019s single payment gateway and underlined the importance of European cooperation on regulation, interoperability, and cloud policy to accelerate adoption across member states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building on this perspective, Professor Katsianis discussed how AI can drive predictive, data-driven public policy, moving from hindsight to foresight in areas such as taxation, budgeting and risk management. He outlined how AI-enabled nowcasting and scenario modeling can enable real-time decision-making and more efficient resource allocation. He also addressed ethical and technical challenges in public-sector AI, from bias and fairness to privacy and model governance, highlighting the pivotal role of universities in establishing human-centric AI frameworks and equipping the next generation of civil servants with data and AI literacy. He concluded by noting that \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are moving the public sector to the early adopters at the beginning of the demand curve<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d emphasizing the importance of foresight, adaptability and innovation-readiness in digital governance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professor Mitropoulos underlined the need for a security-by-design approach to ensure resilience in AI-powered financial systems. He highlighted that \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">innovation and security reinforce each other, noting the need for defense-in-depth mechanisms, transparent and explainable AI models, and human oversight in critical decisions\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
