On November 4, 2025, HellasQCI, the National Quantum Communication Infrastructure for the protection of sensitive data and critical infrastructures, received First Prize in the category \u201cBest New Idea<\/strong>\u201d within the thematic field \u201cIn<\/strong>–house actions for the digital transformation of the Ministry of Digital Governance<\/strong> and its supervised bodies\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>HellasQCI<\/b> project, coordinated by GRNET \u2013 operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence \u2013 , with the support of the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post, is a flagship project for Greece, integrated within the <\/span>EuroQCI<\/b> initiative for the development of a pan-European quantum communication network to protect critical infrastructure and sensitive data.<\/span><\/p>\n

This distinction represents a significant recognition for GRNET<\/strong> and all HellasQCI partners<\/strong> for the successful implementation of the National Quantum Infrastructure. It reflects the collective effort<\/strong> of academic institutions, research centers, technology organizations, and government bodies working together to establish a quantum-secure communication network for critical infrastructures and public services. The award ceremony, to be announced shortly by the Ministry of Digital Governance<\/strong>, will be presented by Mr<\/strong>. Dimosthenis Anagnostopoulos<\/strong>, Secretary<\/strong>–General for Information Systems and Digital Governance<\/strong>, as part of the 2024 Digital Governance Awards event.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the project approaches completion in the coming months, Greece is already planning the next steps<\/strong> to leverage the expertise<\/strong>, results<\/strong>, and infrastructure<\/strong> of HellasQCI, strengthening the country\u2019s pivotal role in quantum communication technologies in Southeast Europe. This goal will be achieved through the cross-border expansion of HellasQCI into new initiatives such as SEEWQCI<\/strong> (South-East Europe to Western Europe Quantum Communication Infrastructure) and TransEuroOGS<\/strong> (Trans-European Optical Ground Stations), both starting in 2026 and advancing towards the creation of a pan-European quantum communication network.<\/span><\/p>\n

The HellasQCI<\/strong> award confirms the strategic importance of the project<\/strong> in shaping Greece\u2019s national quantum communication infrastructure and demonstrates how innovation, collaboration, and vision can define the future of digital security at both the national and European level<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
