The Seminar is co-organised by EuroCC@Greece and the Information Technology Center of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH).<\/p>\n<p>The seminar will also be available via Zoom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Presentation language<\/strong>: Greek<\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience<\/strong>: Suitable for members of academia and industry interested in the usage of High Performance Computing technologies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seminar structure<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part A<\/strong>: Aims to inform about the existing HPC infrastructure at AUTH and the possibilities of exploiting this technology through AUTH and EuroCC@Greece.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part B<\/strong>: Addressed to existing and potential users of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki HPC infrastructure and aims to teach them how to use the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki HPC infrastructure through practical examples. Participants will have the opportunity to\u00a0 practice hands-on training.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar will take place on\u00a0<strong>April 5th<\/strong>, 2023, at\u00a0<strong>10:00 \u2013 14:00 EET<\/strong>, at the central computer isle on ground floor of the central library, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.<\/p>\n<p>Registration to the seminar is mandatory and needs to be completed by Monday, April 3rd,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eforms.auth.gr\/it\/hpc_seminar\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is a limited number of seats available for those participants who wish to attend the seminar in person and will be given out in order of priority.<\/p>\n<p>Participants who have completed the registration form will receive an updated email with the attendance zoom link by Tuesday, April 4th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agenda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Part A\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013<strong>\u00a0The National HPC Competence Center, the HPC \u201cAristotelis\u201d infrastructure at AUTH possibilities of use and collaboration\u00a0<\/strong>[<strong>duration 45 minutes<\/strong>]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The National HPC Competence Center<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Presentation of the National HPC Competence Center (<a href=\"https:\/\/eurocc-greece.gr\/\">EuroCC@Greece<\/a>), its role in the national HPC ecosystem and its services to academia and industry<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Aristotelis Supercomputing infrastructure at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Presentation of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hpc.it.auth.gr\/\">supercomputing infrastructure \u201cAristotle\u201d<\/a>\u00a0at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, its computing capabilities and accessibility for academic users and industry<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Open OnDemand Demo<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Short presentation of the Open OnDemand service for easy access (via Web browser) to the computational resources of the Aristotelis infrastructure<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part B\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013<strong>\u00a0Practical introductory seminar on the use of the HPC infrastructure \u201cAristotelis\u201d of AUTH\u00a0<\/strong>[<strong>duarion 2.5 hours<\/strong>]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>SSH connection\u00a0<\/strong>&amp;<strong>\u00a0basic commands<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Presentation and examples of accessing the remote command line of the cluster login nodes. Basic Linux commands.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Available software and environment management with modulefiles<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>View available centrally installed software on the array. Using multiple versions of an application. Structure of the software directory.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Scheduling HPC jobs with Slurm<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<strong>Practical example<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Slurm\u2019s routing algorithm. Submitting jobs for execution on the cluster. Monitoring jobs and getting results. Requesting additional resources for a job (CPU cores, memory, GPUs, software licenses).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>An example<\/strong>:<strong>\u00a0submitting a Python job<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Setting up a python virtual environment (virtualenv, conda).
